About Screening
Why are more SMEs introducing screening now?
Two converging pressures are driving this change: sickness absence costs are rising and access to primary care is deteriorating. In high-growth businesses the senior team represents a meaningful concentration of risk. Having a clear clinical picture of how those individuals are holding up is increasingly viewed as a straightforward operational requirement rather than a wellbeing gesture.
Is this just a blood test?
No. Blood markers are included in most levels but the appointment is a broader clinical review. We assess cardiovascular risk, metabolic health, sleep patterns, mental health and musculoskeletal function. The value lies in the consultation itself — the opportunity for an employee to discuss their health with a senior nurse and understand exactly what the data means for their long-term resilience.
How is this different from occupational health?
Occupational health is typically a reactive service — it becomes relevant once an employee's health is already affecting their ability to work. It manages absence and supports a return to work. Praxis identifies what is developing before it becomes an operational problem. Most organisations treat screening as a proactive complement to occupational health rather than a replacement.
We already provide private medical insurance. Is screening still worth doing?
Yes. PMI provides access to treatment once a condition has been identified. Praxis looks earlier — helping employees understand their health and flagging potential risks before symptoms appear. PMI is a restorative tool. Praxis is a preventative one. Most companies that offer both find they serve entirely different purposes.
Why work with a registered nurse instead of a doctor-led clinic?
Registered nurses are specialists in clinical assessment and preventative health. This model allows for a more detailed, unhurried consultation than a typical doctor-led service provides. You receive medical-grade diagnostics and expert clinical oversight, with a focus on practical, actionable guidance from a clinician who also understands the realities of running a business.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Will employees worry that their employer might see their results?
This is a reasonable concern, which is why it is addressed directly before every appointment. Individual results are strictly confidential. Praxis operates under rigorous professional and legal obligations. The employer never sees individual medical data. Leadership receives an anonymised overview of patterns across the team — and nothing more.
What happens if something concerning comes up?
Results are explained in full during the appointment. If a marker warrants attention, the nurse provides clear clinical guidance on next steps — such as a GP follow-up or specific monitoring. Nothing is left unexplained, and nothing is shared with the employer.
How is my data handled and stored?
Praxis operates in full compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Individual health data collected during the screening day is processed solely for the purpose of providing your personal clinical summary. It is never shared with your employer, never sold, and never used for any purpose beyond your direct care.
The anonymised workforce report provided to leadership contains no individually identifiable data. Aggregate findings are derived from cohort-level analysis only, in accordance with strict data minimisation principles.
Data is stored securely and retained only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the clinical and contractual obligations of the service. You have the right to request access to your personal data, to have it corrected, or to request its deletion at any time.

PRACTICALITIES
Is there a minimum team size?
We typically work with teams of ten or more to ensure the anonymised leadership report provides a statistically meaningful picture. For smaller leadership groups, individual screenings can be arranged without the aggregated report.
How much space is required in the office?
A private room with a desk and two chairs. All medical-grade equipment and diagnostic tools are brought on the day. The setup is discreet and designed to fit into a standard meeting room or private office without causing any disruption to the rest of the floor.
How long will the team be away from their desks?
Appointments are precisely timed between 25 and 60 minutes depending on the chosen tier. Because Praxis comes to you, there is no travel time and no waiting room. Employees move directly to their consultation and return to their roles immediately afterwards.
What types of companies work with Praxis?
Founder-led businesses and professional teams where a relatively small number of people carry significant operational responsibility. Predominantly boutique agencies, consultancies, and professional services firms — businesses where the health of the core team is directly connected to the health of the business.
COMMERCIAL
Is this a tax-deductible benefit?
Under current HMRC guidance, one annual health screening per employee carries no benefit-in-kind liability, meaning no income tax for the employee and no Class 1A National Insurance for the employer. It is also deductible as a business expense. We recommend confirming the specific application with your finance team.
